In preseason, Topperbotics built a prototype bot with mecanum wheels. It looked messy, but we were happy to give the new members experience with building a robot before the season actually began.
THIS YEARS GAME HAS STARTED!
This year's game is reminiscent of 80s arcade games. The game is composed pf two alliances of three teams each, with each team controlling a robot and performing specific tasks on a field to score points. The game has a retro 8-bit theme and teams are required to place milk crates, or "power cubes", on large balancing scales to tip the scale and gain ownership. Alliances can also trade power cubes for power ups, giving them a temporary advantage in the game. At the end of the game, robots can climb the tower attached to the center balancing scale using a rung attached to the tower, giving them additional points.
Here's the game video:
Our team joined the rest of the 7 Rivers Robotics Coalition on Saturday to view Kickoff together. We came back to Onalaska High full of ideas and got right to work breaking down the game and learning the rules.
We are very excited for this year and the challenges it will bring.
